Planning an observatory to benefit the Koonibba community and space research in Australia

Jenna, Geraldine and Kevina in Queensland researching ideas for the observatory in Koonibba.

The next phase of our development at the Koonibba Test Range is building an observatory that will provide ongoing tourism, education and employment opportunities for the Koonibba community.

This week our Infrastructure Lead has been touring QLD with Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation Chairperson Geraldine and board representative Kevina to learn about different observatories and what the facility in Koonibba could look like.

They have visited the CSIRO In-situ Resource Utilisation Facility which simulates some of the physical characteristics of the Moon’s surface, the Brisbane Planetarium, Charleville Cosmos Centre and the Mount Kent Observatory.

We can't wait to build an observatory on the Far West Coast of South Australia that will benefit the Koonibba community, help with space research and deliver economic opportunities to regional SA!
