Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation and Southern Launch won big at the 2024 Australian Space Awards taking home the inaugural Diversity Initiative Program of the Year Award.

The award recognises the development of the permanent facilities at the Koonibba Test Range and the incredible opportunities that the spaceport will provide to members of the Koonibba and wider Ceduna communities.

Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation Chairperson Geraldine Ware said on the night, ‘Partnering with Southern Launch to develop the Koonibba Test Range has been incredible for our community.

We are very excited about the permanent facilities we have developed. The test range provides employment opportunities for our people today, but it is also be something that we can pass on to future generations to secure their future.’

The recent launch of the SR75 mission from the Koonibba Test Range was the talk of the night. Many of the speeches thanked the Koonibba community for helping advance the space industry in Australia.
